Fields of Elysium by A.B. Whelan

How can love mend a heart full of hate? Small town girl, Molly Bennett, moves to Los Angeles where she becomes an outsider while attending Beverly Hills High School. It seems life cannot be any more dreadful. Then one day after school, something magical happens. On a secluded hike in the Hollywood Hills, Molly chases her disobedient mutt and only friend into a hidden cavern. She stumbles upon a strange glimmering gateway that transports her to Arkana, a planet that is the cradle of an advanced human race. There, teenagers navigate amazing flying vehicles, compete in perilous games for glory, and possess supernatural powers. While Molly tries to wrap her mind around this unbelievable discovery, she meets the alluring and mysterious Victor Sorren. He is a Sentinel Apprentice, whose hatred toward people from Earth is beyond understanding. Yet every time Victor unpredictably saves Molly's life, his heart draws closer to hers, no matter how much he tries to fight against it. It further complicates things that their growing friendship is strictly forbidden. Earth people are prohibited in Arkana, yet Molly continues to cross through the portal to Arkana to see Victor. Torn between their double lives, they go down a dangerous path, from where there is no return and multiple endings. Fields of Elysium is a suspenseful, romantic tale full of forbidden secrets, unimaginable danger, deception, and the never-ending fight for true love.

My Review

Fields of Elysium is captivating in it's unique sci-fi paranormal story combining love, hate, and the ability for forgiveness.

Molly has moved from New Jersey to LA.  She is attending Beverly Hills High were she doesn't fit in with her stylish peers.  Molly has yet to make any friends, or has even been noticed by the other students.

Molly's father is obsessed with her protection, however, tries to make peace with her by buying her a car.  Molly decides to go take a hike with her only best friend, her dog Pandora.  Pandora takes off from her which Molly desperately tries to catch up. Molly follows Pandora into a cave where she makes a huge discovery.

She discovers Arkana, a new world through the wormhole.  She first meets a group of boys and they ask her to join them.  Weston, the first to warm up to her and become her friend, is wealthy and from a prestige family. Victor, the moody boy who has had a difficult life, and thinks it's best for Molly to stay on her own planet. However, the attraction between Molly and Victor can't be denied.

First, I would like to say how much I loved this story.  At first, I didn't know if Arkana was an alternate realm, or if it was a new world. I enjoyed finding out about Arkana, how it was comparable to Earth, but different in a lot of ways.  Molly is out of her element in LA, which makes you think that she is a shy character, but that proves wrong as the story progresses and she travels to Arkana more.  There is a bit of a love triangle between Molly, Weston, and Victor, which causes a conflict between friendships.  The several twists in this story was intriguing.  I felt that the new world was planned out well, from the time differences between worlds, to the advancement in technology.  The paranormal hits at the very end, and very unexpected!  Fields of Elysium is a fun and fast read that I highly recommend.
